On July 12, 2024,
the International Maritime Organization (IMO) decided to reward the crew of a tugboat that braved extreme weather to carry out several offshore rescues.
On October 25, 2023,
Hurricane Otis approached the Pacific coast of Mexico. It quickly became a powerful Category 5 storm and headed toward the city of Acapulco. The tug was in Santa Lucia Bay as the hurricane approached, but the crew - under the direction of Captain Jorge Fernando Galavis Fuentes - left their anchorage and headed out to sea to help ships affected by the disaster. They spotted three people in the water early in the morning and successfully maneuvered nearby to rescue them despite strong winds and waves. They found another survivor and then two more afloat without life jackets.
