On May 8, 2023, a train with a barge loaded with containers crashed into the Willebrook bridge. Several containers ended up in the water, and several more were damaged. The vessel made a voyage along the Brussels-Scheldt sea channel. The blow was so strong that the roadbed on the bridge was damaged. No casualties have been reported.
