In the Rostov region there aren't a lot of companies with big history, it is even less enterprises which for several decades turn out quality products and do high-quality repair. One of such companies Rostov ship-repair Surf plant. This enterprise began the formation in far 1943 when in the former place of utilization of the vessels which sank in the Second World War the first workshops on ship repair appeared. The plant began not only with these workshops, but also with the steam crane which could lift cargoes up to 50 tons. The place of repair and utilization differed in unique location (it is the left bank of the Don River, a so-called Rostov Ladle). From the very beginning of existence of the enterprise it already had the owner, at the initial stage (1947th year) it was management on the Rostov river port. Up to 1956 the owner didn't change, at the same time the enterprise generally was engaged in preparation for navigation and repair of local passenger ships. However about approach of 1957 the specialization of the enterprise was a little changed, at that time on a building berth heavy-tonnage vessels for transportation of goods began to arrive actively, generally it were vessels of the No. 11 project. This year at the enterprise there were first serious changes, cargo vessels (their sediment and repair) demanded new capacities. Therefore the same year at the enterprise the floating workshop was open, further it became base for opening of the Complex shop. Despite production expansion, the territory of the enterprise was badly prepared for work, the most part of the areas wasn't even asphalted. Despite this repair work was performed in time, as well as preparation of vessels. From the beginning of 1959 at the enterprise new changes were made, this year the territory of the plant was divided into two sites. Territory No. 1 was engaged in ship repair of cargo type and preparation them by a season, territory No. 2 repaired and prepared local passenger fleet. Both territories at that time belonged to Red Fleet EW, and were registered on his balance.

The new stage of development of the enterprise began with arrival of the 1970th is ready, in it the period the enterprise operated the deputy director of EW in the beginning, and subsequently and the CEO of already renamed JSC RSZ Priboy (1993) V.G. Martynenko. With arrival of this person at the enterprise attended to a question of preparation of the territory. Taking into account that in an impassability of roads across the territory of the enterprise it was heavy to move, the deputy director made the decision to asphalt the most part of the territory. At that time the total area of the asphalted territory was nearly 3.8 hectares. During this period were engaged not only improvement of the territory. Then (during the period from 1971 to 1984) several new shops, docks, moorings and hangars were built at once. So, in 1975 at the enterprise constructed a battery room and also the production facility for the vessels floating on underwater wings was constructed. In the 1976th year at the enterprise there was a new quay and the floating dock is bought. Since 18981 for 1984 at the enterprise appeared: the structure of the dock shop for repair, the oxygen station and the shop hangar.

The following serious changes happened after the collapse of the USSR. Already in the 1993rd the company changed form of ownership, this year appeared AO RSZ "Surf". Today the Surf plant is an innovative ship-repair company with more than 70-it history. Few what enterprise can guarantee high-quality ship repair in Rostov-on-Don, the Surf plant is an exception. The enterprise guarantees high-quality ship repair practically of any tonnage characteristic of river transport, at the same time the performed works will correspond universal requirements. Here continuously there is a process of modernization and updating of the technical park. At the same time today not only repair, but also shipbuilding is carried out here. Ship repair, the truth is the main field of activity of the enterprise also today. The ship-repair Surf plant is any kinds of works on restoration and repair, including overhaul, technical updating of vessels and so on. On building berths and in docks, shops make:

• Repair work on restoration of electric equipment and navigation.

• Repair work on restoration of cases, engines, machines and mechanisms.

• Repair work on restoration of pipelines, various mechanisms and systems.

• Construction of vessels.

The company has all necessary certificates and licenses, it carries out modernizations of vessels with confirmation of the class Maritime Register of Shipping of the Russian Federation. In particular the quality standards developed in strict accordance with standards of MS of ISO 9001-2000 here too work. Today's plant is three production facilities, four sites for допработ and three floating docks. The enterprise works during the whole year.
