In 2022 the sea trade port Okhotsk celebrated the 375 anniversary. It is the oldest port in the Far East region which endured take-off and falling about lifetime, and today is in a condition of relative stability though before former prosperity it is still far.



The first data



In historical records 1716 appears. Then one descendants of the people who came to the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk in 1647 the first ship constructed and on him I reached Kamchatka by sea. Exactly here the base of the Siberian military flotilla was founded. Is later on the basis of her and the formation known to us as the modern Pacific fleet appeared. The famous traveler Vitus Bering in honor of whom the Bering Strait is called in 1732 organized the Okhotsk navigatsky school, podgotovlivashy professional sailors and become in the future a reliable support of a flotilla here. "Gold time" of one of the largest ports of Russia lasted up to the first half of the twentieth century. By 1850 in Okhotsk the mate school functioned, and it was a starting point for all expeditions directed to a research of the Pacific Ocean in the North and the East. This port came out the expedition which opened western coast of the continent North America. It was the main and largest port of the Sea of Okhotsk and Russia on her Far East borders. But in 1850 the port was disbanded. It was connected with the fact that now other Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky port became more significant outpost of the Russian Empire. Here also moved mate school.



Modern history



The closest to us and rather significant part of history of development of the Okhotsk port originates in the first half of the fiftieth of last century. Then the Ministry of the industry and food products of the Soviet Union gave the order on restoration of port, and, in fact, his revival, actually construction from scratch. For a half of century far from the centralized power the Okhotsk port was managed to be plundered therefore work was coming big. At that moment of a time Okhotsk changed the orientation a little and from military and research turned into fish. Fishing industry grew, and Okhotsk had everything to create here the specialized industrial and transport hub.



The fish Okhotsk seaport held on up to 2008. Unfortunately, the port authority didn't cope that resulted in his bankruptcy. The port which endured Reorganization and "dashing nineties" was long time almost only large enterprise and fed about six hundred families of the workers working in him. And it in the area where all inhabitants there were no more than twenty thousand.



Bankruptcy of "The Okhotsk sea fish port" is consequence of a number of factors, beginning from economic stagnation of the state in general, finishing with mistakes of administration of seaport Okhotsk on places and the general trend to loss of national and moral guidelines. The Okhotsk port was property of Russia, it grew up a great number of outstanding sailors, was the peaceful harbor for many famous researchers, and later – life for local sailors and their families.



Now the port functions, and pogruzo-unloading activity is carried out by two companies: "Okhotsk site joint joint-stock company "Nikolaev — on — Cupid Seaport"" and LLC Neftyoptorg. To be fair, it should be noted that in 2008 the goods turnover of port made about 60 million ton-kilometers, and in 2011 this number grew practically twice and made already 106 million. The port of the urban-type settlement of Okhotsk didn't become large international giant, but remains an important part of historical and cultural property of Russia.



Features



Located in the north at the mouth of the Kukhtuy River, the port of Okhotsk has restrictions on the permissible navigation time. It is quite cold here, and therefore you can enter the port only six months a year - from May to November. In the rest of the months, coastal waters freeze and prevent loading and unloading platforms from functioning.



Heavy-duty vessels are being raided here. The port has five berths, the total length of which reaches almost six hundred meters. The port of Okhotsk is capable of receiving ships up to 110 meters long, 18 meters wide and with a draft of no more than 3.5.



In 2011, in addition to building materials, food, and petroleum products, gold and silver ore began to pass through the port, which significantly increased its cargo turnover.
