Today, Admiralty Shipyards JSC can rightly be considered the flagship of Russian shipbuilding. Its production base makes it possible to annually produce several ships and submarines for various purposes of displacement. The shipyard built by Peter the Great during its existence made a significant contribution to the development of Russian shipbuilding.
From Peter to the present day
By personal decree of Peter the Great, on November 5, 1704, the construction of a shipbuilding shipyard began in St. Petersburg, later called the Admiralty Shipyards. From this day begins the history of the legendary shipbuilding enterprise.
Thanks to the efforts of Peter and his followers, the Admiralty House was rapidly developing. Already on January 12, 1705, it was reported that the construction of ships had begun at the Admiralty shipyards, and on April 29, 1706, the construction of the Arcanne pram, which was a floating artillery battery with a flat bottom, was completed. The ship master from Holland, Vybe Gerens, took an active part in its construction. Subsequently, with his help, several battleships were launched, which significantly increased the prestige of the Russian fleet. In May of that year, the construction of the Lyubov and Catherine yachts was successfully completed.
In early December 1709, under the leadership of Peter I and Fedor Sklyaev, the construction of the first battleship began. The armament of the Poltava was 54 artillery pieces. The pace of construction was constantly accelerating. At the end of 1715, 10 warships were built simultaneously at the Admiralty shipyards, the armament of which ranged from 60 to 90 guns.
In 1712, near the mouth of the Neva, the construction of small ships began. The new shipyard was called the Gallery Yard. At the end of 1713, the shipyard's production capacity was more than 62 slipways. One of the most significant events in the history of the Galley Yard was the construction and testing in 1725 of the prototype of the first Russian submarine, called the "Patented Vessel." Its developer was Efim Nikonov. Historical sources that have survived to this day indicate that during the life of Peter the Great, 23 large ships and more than 200 galleys were launched.
Many ships built and sailed from admiralty shipyards remained forever in the history of Rossi. They can safely include the armored artillery battery "Don't Touch Me," the construction of which was completed in 1865 under the leadership of Englishman Mitchel and Russian shipbuilder Sobolev. Launched in 1877, the prototype of the future squadron battleships "Peter the Great." The battleships of the coastal defense "Popovka" and "Novgorod," as well as the high-speed corvette "Vityaz" and the naval destroyer "Explosion," the construction of which was completed in 1877. In 1903, the cruiser "Aurora," known to the world, began to furrow the sea.
December 1959 was marked by the launch of the unique at that time nuclear icebreaker Lenin and the floating base for the processing of crabs and fish Andrei Zakharov. In the 60s. XX century the plant began mass production of icebreakers of the Dobrynya Nikitich type and tankers of the Hanoi type, the displacement of which was 62 600 tons.
Over the 3-century history of its existence, the company launched more than 2600 ships for various purposes.
