The peer-reviewed scientific journal "Scientific Problems of Water Transport" received this name in January 2020. Before this date, the journal was called "Vestnik VGAVT"; it, in turn, replaced in 2002 the collections of articles published by the University under various names since its foundation in 1930.

    The publication is devoted to current issues of water transport in Russia and publishes scientific materials on such important areas for the industry as shipbuilding, ship repair, hydraulic engineering, environmental safety of shipping, economics, logistics and transport management.

    The journal has been included in the List of the Higher Attestation Commission since January 2016.

    Since December 2022, the journal has been included in the updated List of the Higher Attestation Commission in the following specialties:

- Ship Theory and Structural Mechanics

- Ship Design and Construction

- Shipbuilding Technology, Ship Repair and Organization of Shipbuilding Production

- Ship Power Plants and Their Components

- Operation of Water Transport, Waterways, Communications and Hydrography (Engineering Sciences)

- Regional and Industry Economics

    Since December 2023, the journal has been assigned the K2 category (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia dated December 19, 2023 "On Categorization of the List of Peer-Reviewed Scientific Publications")

    The journal is published 4 times a year (March, June, September, December)

    The editorial board of the journal includes leading Russian and foreign scientists in basic industry areas.
