On July 18, 2023, the ship capsized and sank near Chumbe Island while on a domestic voyage in Tanzania. The ferry departed from Dar es Salaam to Unguja Island and sank 6.2 miles from Unguja. There were 250 passengers on board. After the ship sank, 146 were rescued. The ferry capsized due to bad weather and overload.
