On February 3, 2006, the ship capsized and sank in the Red Sea. The sinking began with a severe fire in the engine room, which led to the failure of several of the ship's systems. The ferry was traveling from Duba, Saudi Arabia to Safaga, Egypt. There were 1,408 people on board, including the crew. Only 388 people survived the crash.
