On July 3, 2024,

two nautical miles off the coast of Marinha Grande, the Virgem Dolorosa

capsized and sank. There were 14 crew members on board, 3 died, the search for the 3 missing continues for the second day. At the moment, the cause of the ship's sinking is unknown.
