The sea port of the village of Varandey, located in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, on the coast of the Barents Sea, has no connection with the railway network of Russia. The Yulizhayshaya railway station is Usinsk.

Goods imported from Europe are delivered to Arkhangelsk via several active lines, and their further transportation to Varandey is carried out by barges and river-sea vessels.

Cargo is unloaded by a port floating crane, with a carrying capacity of 17 tons, and shipowners attract additional crane capacities to unload heavier cargo.

Restrictions in the port are 3 meters in maximum draft, with full water, the width of a suitable canal is 90 meters.

4 kilometers from the village of Varandey there is a shipping complex with a capacity of 1.5 million oil per year. The terminal, connected to the coastal oil reservoirs by an underwater duker, received tankers with a deadweight of up to 20 thousand tons and allows for the year-round shipment of oil from the Timan-Pechora oil and gas province and its supply to foreign markets.

The Varandey stationary sea ice-resistant shipping pier is listed in the Guineas Book of Records as the northernmost year-round operating oil terminal in the world.
