The Atlantic Base is part of the Marine Expeditionary Research Center. It is the largest base of the entire scientific fleet in Russia.

The Atlantic base of the Center for Marine Expeditionary Research was also created at the Institute of Oceanology named after P.P. Shirshov.

The Marine Expeditionary Research Center provides research vessels for all scientific organizations of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia for various work on marine topics.
