The first issue of the Sakhalinsky Moryak newspaper was published on April 1, 1948, just three years after the formation of the Sakhalin Shipping Company. At that time, the publication was issued on one printed sheet with a circulation of 2,000 copies, covering exclusively the activities of enterprises that were part of the ramified structure of the SakhMP, and, of course, the fleet.

    For 76 years, the newspaper was a faithful assistant and mouthpiece of the main city-forming enterprise of Kholmsk. At different times, the editorial staff of SM was headed by such creative, extraordinary personalities as Yu. Nikolaev (father of the famous composer and performer I. Nikolaev), V. Rukas, T. Tsymbal, E. Vagin and others, and the correspondents of Sakhalinsky Moryak were An. Mukhlisov, N. Afanasyev, A. Mirny, M. Schmidt, V. Koshmanov, V. Efanova and many others, without a doubt, were the cream of Sakhalin journalism. And how many resonant publications, vivid interviews, memorable events there have been over the past decades!     Today, "Sakhalinsky Moryak" can be read not only in the traditional paper version, but also in electronic form - on the SASCO website. This undoubtedly brings it closer to the reader, including those veterans of the Sakhalin Shipping Company who live outside the island region.
