The seaport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is an enterprise of federal importance, and is also one of the largest ports in Russia. Today, the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is located on the coast of the famous Avacha Bay, which is not only the 2nd in size, a natural bay around the world, but also does not freeze. Today, the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is located in maximum proximity to the popular shipping lines passing 150-200 nautical miles from the Kamchatka coast. This is the closest port in Russia, which is located next to the Northern Sea Route and is equipped with all the infrastructure necessary for processing ships.

Seaport Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - features and advantages

The commercial port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is located on the banks of the Peter and Paul Bay. To ensure high-quality and efficient handling of vessels, with different draft, on the territory of the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, there are several berths that allow several ships and dry cargo ships to dock at the same time, for quick and accurate loading/unloading and other types of maintenance.

In addition to convenient berths that allow ships to dock effectively, the water area of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky commercial port is distinguished by great depths, so ships can enter here, with a huge amount and volume of various cargo on board. Despite the fact that the cargo turnover of the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky regularly changed, depending on the time of year, international economic policy and other individual conditions, today this average is about 1 million tons annually, and the seaport administration is doing everything possible to not only keep this indicator stable, but also increase the level of customer service and the amount of cargo.

The main types of cargo that are processed, unloaded and stored on the territory of this enterprise are large-tonnage containers, coal, building materials, ore and raw materials. The website of the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky also noted that in recent years the flow of coaster cargo served by the enterprise has significantly increased.

The flow of imported goods today is represented by such categories of goods as cars, machinery, building materials, clinkers in bulk and other goods. Most exports today come from cargo groups such as scrap metal, ore, containers and other cargoes.

Unlike other enterprises, the seaport administration takes special care of employees, their family members and even those who have already gone on a well-deserved rest. A special commission, which was formed here several years ago, periodically holds meetings, determining what kind of material assistance can be provided to current and former employees, taking into account the current income of the enterprise.

Plans and prospects

The main task of the administration of the enterprise is to create a container port hub, which will be the main one, throughout the Northern Sea Route. The website of the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky presents specific plans related to the creation of a special terminal for handling goods of various types, which will allow servicing goods going to Europe or the United States from Southeast Asian countries. As part of this project, the port infrastructure will be completely modernized, and some facilities used for servicing ships or storing goods will be reconstructed. To achieve the planned tasks, the customs post of the port in the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky will be expanded to be able to serve a larger number of dry cargo ships.

As part of the implementation of the first stage of the planned reconstruction and modernization, a large-scale reconstruction of all berths used today will be carried out on the territory of the enterprise. In order not to stop the work of the customs post of the port in the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the reconstruction will be carried out gradually, while the existing berths will be able to accept vessels for maintenance. During the reconstruction behavior, it is planned to deepen the bottom, which will allow receiving sea vessels with a large displacement.

The next stage of reconstruction work is the development of free territories located beyond berth No. 3. Such territories will significantly expand the useful working area and place even more cargo, materials and containers on it.

According to the administration of this enterprise, the planned reconstruction work will increase the port's throughput capacity, increasing them to 8 million tons. After the completed reconstruction, the company will be able to accept not only ships of any displacement, but also cruise ships. With the increase in cargo traffic and the number of ships, an additional number of new jobs will also appear in the port, which is good news for residents of the port city and everyone who comes here to work.
