Nizhny Novgorod port was created in 1932. And in the same year it was renamed the Gorky River Port.

In the Soviet Union, the Gorky port was one of the largest on the Volga.

By 1957, the port had 18 berths, including 4 large modern ones with reinforced concrete walls, with a length of about 450 linear meters.

The enterprise of Nizhny Novgorod Port OJSC, which actually managed the cargo river port, in 2017 is undergoing the liquidation stage
