    The Murmansk Association of Sea Captains (MAMC) is a non-governmental public organization that was created to ensure the safety of navigation and to provide assistance to captains in matters of navigation and their protection from criminal and administrative liability. 



 



    The main mission of the association is to unite the efforts of seafarers and protect their honor and dignity, to increase the professionalism and prestige of the profession, and to strengthen the influence of the organization's members on the international safety of navigation. 



 



    In order to achieve the set goals, the Murmansk Association of Sea Captains, within the framework of the established declaration, performs the following tasks:



 



    Helps to establish and maintain professional and personal communication between both current and former members of the association; 



 



    Preserves and popularizes the history and maritime traditions, and also provides assistance to seafarers in organizing leisure activities; 



 



    Strengthens informational and socio-political cooperation with educational, commercial and government institutions;



 



Carries out charitable activities.



 



    The Murmansk Association of Sea Captains conducts conscientious and impartial examinations of accidents and evaluates the professional activities of captains. Among the current issues to which MAMC currently pays special attention are: maritime education, employment of seafarers, reorganization of maritime transport management, etc.



 



 



History of origin. 



 



    The idea of ​​establishing the organization arose in 1971 and was fully consistent with the spirit of the times and trends in the development of international maritime policy. It was then that the problem of ensuring safety and assistance to captains in their difficult work began to be actively discussed on the world stage. The international community began to work on issues of ensuring the safety of life and property at sea, preventing injuries and assisting seafarers in prosecution.



 



    Intensive organizational work on the creation of the Murmansk Association began in 1989, when the initiative group (which included captains Z.A. Vibach, V.N. Galkin, R.B. Igritsky, L.V. Lenskoy and A.A. Cherepanov) closely engaged in developing the structure and statutory documents of the community, as well as searching for sources of financing. In May of the same year, the association was officially established and registered with the regional justice authority, and some time later received consultative status with the IMO. Captain L.V. Lenskoy was elected president of the newly formed organization.

    In addition to established bilateral cooperation with socio-political organizations, the Murmansk Association of Sea Captains also has the status of a permanent member in the non-governmental captain's organization IFSMA and is a member of the seafarers' trade union.



 



    The non-governmental captain's organization IFSMA is an international professional organization that unites and represents the interests of seafarers around the world. The organization develops international standards for the competence of seafarers and international requirements for their working conditions, and monitors the implementation of these standards.



 



    The Seafarers' Trade Union is a public association that protects the labor rights of workers employed in the maritime merchant fleet.



 



 



Department of Ice Pilots.



 



    As part of the activities of the Murmansk Association of Sea Captains, the company Ice Pilots LLC was created in 2010, which united under its management both current and former captains of ships of all classes. The company's range of services:

Provides ice pilotage for all types of vessels;

Agents vessels in Murmansk, Kandalaksha and other ports in the Arctic region;



 



Consults and protects the interests of the vessel in interaction with local authorities;



 



Conducts all types of transport and forwarding work;

Organizes loading and unloading operations;



 



Conducts survey work.



 



    Each specialist in the Ice Pilots Department has a sea captain certificate, an ice pilot certificate (issued by the Northern Sea Route Administration) and extensive practical experience.



 



Veterans Club.



 



    The Veterans Club is another structural division of the Murmansk Association of Sea Captains. Its main activities:



 



    Helps former captains find employment and social adaptation;



 



    Establishes constructive interaction with federal and regional authorities;



 



    Develops and participates in projects that protect the civil, economic, political, social and cultural rights of former ship captains;



 



    Organizes and holds scientific and practical conferences, seminars, round tables and other cultural and educational events to enhance the prestige of the maritime fleet.



 



    Strengthens spiritual unity, professional solidarity and friendship, and also revives maritime culture and perpetuates the memory of sailors who suffered in the line of duty, etc.
