Murmansk Commercial Sea Port is located in the eastern part of the Kola Bay, which is part of the Barents Sea. Built before the formation of the city of Murmansk, it is the most powerful enterprise in the region. A microclimate favorable enough for the polar region, the proximity of the warm flows of the Gulf Stream created wonderful conditions for navigation. Water area that does not freeze even in harsh winters allows you to receive and send ships year-round with minimal use of icebreaking equipment. The width of the strait, the depth of the fairway allows ships of all types to enter, regardless of draft and size.
The port farm consists of 111 berths and 2 piers, with a total length of 13 kilometers. The parking depth reaches 14.2 meters, which is enough to moor large tankers and dry cargo. The depth on the raid varies from 20 to 60 meters. The railway network, like arteries, penetrates the port, and the total length of the tracks is 15.4 kilometers. Indoor warehouses occupy a very large area - 60,000 square meters, open warehouses, and more - 247,000 square meters.
Murmansk commercial port is export-oriented. From its berths, timber, minerals, building materials, cars, and products of chemical enterprises are sent to the world market.
The Murmansk Merchant Navy is the key to the development of the wealth of the Arctic. The most powerful icebreakers of Russia are based here, ensuring the operation of the Northern Sea Route and the development of the Arctic shelf.
