Located on the southwest coast of Sahadin Island, at the top of Nevelsky Bay, it includes South Harbor and North Harbor. Due to this, the favorable geographical location and the influence of the warm current, the port is open for navigation all year round. In the South harbor of the seaport, freight operations are carried out with railway ferries, the Vanino-Kholmsk lines, and passengers are boarded and disembarked. The area of ​ ​ the water area is 15.6 square kilometers. The port has 27 berths, with a total length of 2,469 linear meters. The port includes sea terminals: Apple and Pravda.

The port is open for navigation all year round and is available for any medium-sized ships, deadweight up to 7,000 tons.

The width of the entrance fairway is 140m, the depth at the entrance to the harbor is 11-12m, the depth in the harbor is more than 9 meters. Pilotage of ships in the port is mandatory. Transport ships up to 110 meters long, up to 20 meters wide and up to 6 meters draft can enter the commercial port.
