The P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences is the oldest and largest Russian research center in the field of oceanology.

It is worth noting that the Institute of Oceanology is the only institute in Russia that cites research in all fields of marine sciences, including physics, climatology, chemistry, biology and ocean geology.

The P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology is also the only center in Russia leading research in all oceans, including the Arctic.
