The seaport of Yeisk has the following geographical coordinates: 46 ° 43.32 "N, 38 ° 16.45" E. It is located on the southern coast of the Taganrog Bay, at the very beginning of the Yeisk Spit.

History of the port

It was founded in 1848 at the direction of Nicholas I - then the Russian emperor. However, the Yeisk seaport began to really function only in 1850 - after the temporary marina was solemnly opened here. Interestingly, in the first 12 months of operation, the port's cargo turnover exceeded 1,000,000 pounds.

The permanent wharf did not appear here until 1854. And just a few decades later, the port became one of the most important transport hubs in the south of the Russian Empire. In the 1890s, goods from all over the North Caucasus met on its giant squares. And it was here that tens of tons of linen seeds, timber, leather and wool were unloaded from ships, and then sent inland.

In 1914, a railway was launched that connected Yeisk with other settlements of the Russian Empire. Thanks to this, the port received a powerful impetus for development. In the same year, the port began to be turned into a deep-sea one.

In the Soviet period, the Yeisk seaport also received great attention. The berths were covered with concrete, the port was equipped with new cranes, the workshops were modernized. Much of what was created during that period continues to be exploited now.

After the collapse of the USSR, in 1993, the port received international status and opened for foreign ships. This contributed to the expansion of economic ties and led to a significant increase in cargo flows.

It should also be added that on April 29, 2022, the Yeisk seaport was included in the list of backbone organizations of the Russian economy.

Key features and official website

The seaport of Yeisk has an impressive size (its area is 68.61 hectares), as well as an advanced technological base. Here, on a stable basis, cargo is received and sent to the countries of the Black and Mediterranean Seas (to Turkey, Israel, Romania, Greece, Egypt, Bulgaria, etc.). More specifically, we are talking about such goods as food oils, oil products (there is a special oil loading terminal), wood, coal, grains and products of their processing, metal rolled products and scrap.

In total, 15 berths operate in the port, which belong to 8 companies. Their total length is 2.3 km. They are equipped with mobile as well as portal cranes. Their presence speeds up and makes it easier to work with ships of all classes. The equipment of the port meets world standards.

Railway rails are connected to each pier, along which cargo can be brought to or taken out of the port. However, this can be done with the help of road transport.

It is worth mentioning the official website of the port of Yeisk. His address is eisk.azovseaports.ru. On this site, among other things, you can familiarize yourself with the detailed diagram of the port, as well as see contacts (phone, fax, e-mail) for communication with the administration.

Nuances of the entry and exit of ships

The port consists of an outer part (avanport) protected by two moles and an inner basin. You can get into the avanport through the Yeisk Canal. Its width is 80 m, and the minimum depth is 4.2 m. The length of the Yeisk Canal is 1.2 nautical miles. For convenience, it is fenced with glowing buoys.

When entering and leaving the port through the channel, ships must adhere to the strictly right side. In addition, the Yeisk seaport administration prohibits two ships following the same direction from entering the canal at the same time.

Navigation in the port is carried out all year round. At the same time, there is an ice period - it lasts from November-December to February-March. The thickness of the ice cover in mild winters is about 40 cm, and in severe winters it can reach 70-80 cm. With surge winds, hummocks are also possible here - large (and outwardly very beautiful) piles of ice fragments.

However, freezing of the Taganrog Bay is not an unsolvable problem - entry into the port in this case is provided by the diesel-electric icebreaker Captain Krutov.

Basic Port Services

In the port of Yeisk, qualified transshipment of various types of cargo is carried out around the clock. A competent, well-functioning organization of all processes allows you to do without downtime and optimize transportation costs. Among the most important priorities during transshipment, of course, is the safety of goods taken into work.

Another significant area is warehousing activities. Spacious warehouses are equipped directly on the port (some of them covered, some without a roof). Their total area is more than 145,000 m2

A few words should be said about the forwarding of goods delivered by sea. This is a whole range of work related to the support of the cargo and the corresponding execution of documents. Forwarding specialists for customers are engaged in all the necessary procedures, take over interaction with government agencies. In particular, expeditions can include the clearance of goods at the customs post of the port of Yeisk.

Also here you can order chartering, Talman services, shipchandler service (supplying ships with everything necessary to get on the flight). In addition, diving inspection and minor repairs of the hull and mechanisms of the vessel are carried out in the Yeisk seaport. There are also opportunities for replenishing food, fuel, fresh water supplies here.

Freight Turnover Data

In 2017, the cargo turnover of the Yeisk port amounted to 4.6 million tons, and this was one of the best indicators over the past few years. And, for example, in 2020 this figure turned out to be slightly less - 4.26 million tons. It is also known that 3.15 million tons of them are dry cargo, and another 1.11 million tons are bulk.

The volume of cargo transshipment in the port of Yeisk in January-December 2021, according to available data, amounted to almost the same - 4.27 million tons. At the same time, it is known that, compared to 2020, the volume of specifically grain increased by 27% - from 1.82 to 2.31 million tons. On the other hand, the volume of coal decreased by 23% - from 1107.2 to 850.4 thousand tons. The transshipment of petroleum products also sank a little - from 672.5 thousand tons to 581.7 thousand tons (that is, by 13.5%).

In general, in terms of cargo turnover, Yeisk rightfully occupies one of the first places among the seaports of Russia in the Black Sea-Azov basin.
