The Russian Seafarers' Union was founded on November 25, 1991. The Far Eastern Association of Sea Captains became the legal successor of the Inter-Republican Professional Union of Seafarers, which operated on the scale of the Soviet Union. 

    Over the years, the union has grown and strengthened, today the union unites about 70,000 seafarers. The Far Eastern Association of Sea Captains is represented in all maritime regions of Russia.

- is an unprotected seafarer. Only membership in the union will help to avoid many troubles, such as late payment of wages, the unwillingness of the shipowner to pay for repatriation or compensation for an injury.
