On November 5, 1992, during the sixth meeting of the Operational Network for Regional Cooperation of the Maritime Authorities of South America, Cuba, Mexico, and Panama (ROCRAM), Resolution No. 5 was approved, giving birth to the Latin American Agreement on Port State Control. Initially signed by Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela, this agreement became an international milestone, establishing itself as the first operational framework of its kind in the developing region.
Currently, the Latin American Maritime Agreement has 16 member bodies, namely: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.
