The International Organization for Standardization is an independent non-governmental international organization in which national standardization bodies are involved.

The scope of ISO activities relates to standardization in all areas except electronics and electrical engineering, which are the responsibility of the International Electrotechnical Commission.

ISO defines its objectives to promote standardization and related activities in the world in order to ensure international exchange of goods and services, as well as to promote cooperation in the intellectual, scientific, technical and economic fields.
