The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) is an internationally recognized independent ship classification society founded in India in 1975. It is a non-profit organization, a state-owned enterprise and a member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) of 12 members. It was included in the IACS together with the Croatian Register of Shipping (CRS) and the Polish Register of Shipping (PRS).
Today IRClass acts on behalf of Sea administration of the government of India as the only body for final definition of a freeboard mark on vessels under the Indian flag and also as the security organization which defines compliance to requirements of the International code of safety of vessels and port means (ISPS). for Indian flag vessels and port facilities.
